asking for help to carry out a transit count this coming Thursday on Station
Road, part of an assessment of increased risk due to building works by

Can you spare half an hour on Tuesday to help prevent a road accident?

 

Dear Resident

 

You have probably seen the excellent note circulated by Mawson Road resident
Nicky Massey regarding the dangerous traffic in the Station Road area.

 

There is serious risk to pedestrians and cyclists, in particular children
and young people, who have to cross Station Road in order to gain access to
school or the sixth form college.

 

In Station Road the Council have:-

*	Allowed scaffolding to be built right out into the street
restricting sight lines.

*	Built a raised table at the junction of Tenison Road and Station
Road that does not slow traffic at all.

*	Allowed taxis to park all along Station Road and failed to stop them
parking right up to the corners forcing pedestrians into the road to see
oncoming traffic.

*	Failed to take into account the heavy traffic from a major
construction site.

 

The result of this is that pedestrians risk their lives to cross in an area
of fast traffic of cars, buses, taxis and trucks.

 

Nicky has been raising this danger since December but has met a brick wall
from the County Council officials who just pass the buck from one to another
and given ridiculous excuses

*	Not a problem

*	No money

*	No accidents (but how up to date are they?)

*	All will be fixed when Station Road closes in the autumn.

 

All of this in response to a clear and present danger now. Their lack of
action is outrageous.

 

Nicky has been to see Brookgate, the developers, who have offered do a cash
collection from the various interests in Station Road to pay for a temporary
crossing facility.

 

This offer is subject to the County agreeing that something is needed and a
meeting has been arranged by our County Councillor Ashley Walsh for this
Thursday. This meeting is critical to persuade the officials to take action.

 

We need your help.

 

This Tuesday we are conducting a vehicle, cycle and pedestrian count in
Station Road. We need to demonstrate that the street takes a lot of traffic
and is dangerous
