September 9 Update

It was standing room only at last week’s Does Cambridge Deserve Better event
addressed by Mayor Palmer and city and village reps. The organisers of the
event want to thank you for your support and help in making the event such
a success and for the generous donations which meant that all costs were
covered. There were 228 attendees. The same concerns drew people from all
over Cambridge and the villages. FeCRA filmed the event for you.

In our last mailing we said the event "Does Cambridge Deserve Better" was
timely because in addition to concerns about transport plans many of you
are sharing with us details of the ugly piecemeal developer led growth
impacting so many neighbourhoods. We attached the leaflet concerning the
proposed demolition of *18 Panton Street*, a Cambridge Conservation area.
North Newtown RA have asked us to thank those  who have written to object
and to say that the case officer is willing to receive comments until 15
September.


The Hills Road Area Residents Association and Queen Edith’s Way Residents
Association have produced a leaflet under the same theme of *‘Cambridge
Deserves Better’* with reference to the demolition planned for “*Raylands”,
291 Hills Road* (attached) .The leaflet  includes a comment from David
Jones, author of the prize winning, *Hideous Cambridge, A City Mutilated *.
As he points out this decision will set a precedent about the speed and
nature of change in the city.


*Friday 15 September *is the end of the consultation period for*
“Raylands”, 291 Hills Road* but the Council say they will consider all
comments received by *Friday 13 October. *The reference to quote is
*17/1372/FUL*. Please write and object and circulate the leaflet to all your
networks.The organisers of the leaflet have set up an email address for
concerned citizens to keep in touch about this and other Cambridge
development.

*Cambridge Past Present and Future* have responded to these two key
applications with guns blazing. Check out their responses on the planning
portal and on their website and twitter. A very big thank you to the team. They
have also asked us to share with you the letter they have sent to Greater
Cambridge Partnership. It calls on the GCP to set up a working group to
commission consultants to undertake a feasibility study of how a pollution
charge could be combined with fiscal demand management to deliver the three
wins – cleaner air, reduced congestion, and a sustainable income stream,

We will be in touch again to ask for your views on the transport plans for
the *A1307*. The 3 options impact Gogs views and the city’s green belt
setting and the attractive Babraham Road approaches. There are similar
issues regarding development and Omissions sites as for the A428 Cambourne
to Cambridge busway options.

We have written to the GCP to point out that their Minutes of 13th July
2017 do not include the public questions and responses . We have asked
them to forward a copy of the questions and responses and also update the
Assembly Agenda pack on line.


*Greenways Project*  Manager Simon Manville Project Manager  has agreed to
attend the North Area Committee meeting at 18:30 in Chesterton Community
College on *14 September* to explain the background and status of the
project. If you recall there were concerns about the status of the
consultant’s report. This is still on the website.
